Whole-home renovations

Renovating a whole house as one coordinated project.

When several rooms, systems, and finishes change at once, the value is in the sequencing. A whole-home renovation is planned as a single program of work rather than a series of separate jobs.

Scope of work

  • Reworking layout across floors, including walls, openings, and circulation
  • Kitchen, bathroom, and living space renovations delivered in sequence
  • Flooring, millwork, doors, trim, tile, and painting throughout
  • Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical updates by licensed trades
  • Structural modifications where drawings and professional review support them
  • Site protection, waste management, and a coordinated finishing program

Planning considerations

  • The condition and age of the existing house, and what it allows
  • Which phases can overlap and which must follow one another
  • Whether the home will be occupied, and what that means for services and access
  • Material lead times across many rooms at once
  • Permitting requirements and the professionals needed to support them
  • How decisions and changes are recorded as the scope evolves

Living through the work

Some whole-home renovations can be staged so part of the house stays usable; others cannot. We assess this for your home before construction rather than assuming it is possible.

Older homes

Opening walls in an older house can reveal conditions no one could see beforehand. We plan for review points where findings are discussed and priced before work continues.

How Balwind coordinates the work.

One point of contact holds the whole schedule: which trade is on site, what has been inspected, what is waiting on a decision, and what is arriving next. You get updates at a regular cadence instead of having to chase them.

We can walk you through examples of work at a similar scope, and put you in touch with references, during your initial conversation. You can also see the standard we build to in our design concepts.

Common questions.

How long does a whole-home renovation take?

It depends on the size of the house, the scope, and permitting. We provide a schedule based on your project rather than a general range.

Do we need to move out?

Sometimes. It depends on which services are affected and how much of the house is under construction. We discuss occupancy and disruption before the work begins.

Can the project be phased?

Often, yes. Phasing can spread cost and disruption, though it usually adds overall duration. We can lay out the trade-offs for your home.
